La flor del cirerer

La Flor del Cirerer (The Cherry Tree Flower) sought to become a reference point for the Catalan music of our days, a light cycle which is complete at the same time, which moves away from the Germanic and interiorized intention and opens the doors to sincere and passionate expression of the Mediterranean sentiment.
Through human feelings deeply rooted in the awakening of spring, it achieves a perfect and vital communication between two cultures that are simultaneously distant and close: Catalan and Japanese. The songs were composed expressly for their performance in Tokyo in September of 2008.
Jesús Rodríguez Picó offers these six songs based on poems by the baritone who performs them, Lluís Sintes Mercadal. Mercadal has composed phrases in a lyrical line and tone in to provide the singer pitch freedom in his dialogue with the piano which is rich in modern and contemporary harmonies conceived especially for the skell of the Japanese pianist, Naoko Asano.
In the final piece, both creators play the game that interconnects the Catalan spring with the Japanese spring in a rising approximation of oriental colorings that perfectly highlight the work’s poetic sense, in which Rodríguez Picó renders a small homage to the composer Maurice Ravel.
