During the 1980’s, Francesc Taverna-Bech composed three works entitled Climes. All three are made up of smaller groups: Climes I and Climes II are duets while Climes III is for a trio with piano. Climes I was written between February and April of 1981, in an moment when the author, as he himself states “based the language in expressionist and atonal elements, back then I was interested in polyrhythms and looked into harmonic balance through intervallic concepts”. Climes I has only one movement and is conceived in complete freedom, both in its harmonic aspects and its formal aspects. It is a lyric rhapsody where some chords and certain sequences act as structural elements in the composition, with the central part being poco scherzando to balance the score. The author does not hide that the origin of the work arose from his reflections on the experiences and events that period of time invoked.
Other works from that same period include Grafitti per a trio -Grafitti for trio- (Clivis Publicacions, AC180), Gèminis per a duet de pianos -Gèminis for two pianos- (Clivis Publicacions, AC031), Imatges per a veu i piano sobre Tannkas de Carles Riba -Images for voice and piano on Tannkas of Carles Riba- (Clivis Publicacions, AC118) and Climes II (Clivis Publicacions, AC042).
