Composed in 2006, this piece was debuted on 21 October 2007 by the Catalan Chamber Orchestra under the direction of musical maestro Joan Pàmies and with the composer himself playing the lead. It was performed at the CCCB in Barcelona as part of the concert held in honour of Francesc Taverna-Bech, a Catalan composer, on the occasion of his 75thbirthday.
Concertino for Piano and Strings is structured into three movements: Grave-Andante, Adagio, Grave-Andante, which are performed back-to-back. The piece is characterised by its organic and straight-forward construction, developed with a modesty and simplicity in its musical themes and expressions, which affords it a sense of unity, transparency and clarity. The solo piano part, meanwhile, is elaborate, though never overly complex, which means that the piece would be most useful for pianists in training.
