The Rondó-fantasia de Jordi Vilaprinyó brought together the two instruments that most resemble the human voice, the two most lyrical instruments in the world: the tenora and the violoncello. The work combines these instruments to spectacular effect and represents a box of thematic surprises including a sonorous and rhythmical Catalan tone and Mediterranean timbre and tonal touches. The piano is the driving force of the whole work and the tenora and violoncello drive the melodies upwards to reach a climatic cadenza where the two instruments create a harmonious dialogue.
Finally, it should be noted that the work was premiered on 24th May 2003 in the Auditori Pau Casals in Sant Salvador (El Vendrell), the most appropriate setting for the piece, with Jordi Vilaprinyó on piano, Lito Iglesias on violoncello and myself.
